Pitfall 1: Believing acoustic cotton solves everything

Acoustic cotton absorbs some mid and high frequency sound, but it is weak against low-frequency impact noise such as footsteps and floor vibration.

Better approach: use a multi-layer system with vibration isolation, acoustic membrane, insulation and sealed board layers.

Pitfall 2: Ignoring ceiling height

Ceiling systems take up height. If a room is already low, the design should balance performance and space comfort.

Material quality matters, but the complete build-up and installation details matter even more.

Unsealed gaps, incomplete membrane coverage and rigid connections can reduce the final acoustic performance.

Basic Acoustic Principles

Soundproofing means reducing sound transmission from one space to another. Effective solutions usually combine several principles.

Mass

Heavier, denser layers can block more airborne sound. Acoustic boards and membranes are common mass layers.

Damping

Damping materials convert vibration energy into heat and reduce resonance inside the structure.

Isolation

Vibration isolation breaks rigid sound paths, which is especially important for upstairs footsteps and impact noise.

Absorption

Porous materials absorb sound inside cavities and reduce reflections, but they need to be used as part of a complete system.

Material Selection Guide

Acoustic Insulation

Use: fills cavities and absorbs sound energy. It works best with boards, membranes and sealed layers.

Acoustic Membrane

Use: adds mass and damping to ceilings or walls. It must be installed continuously to avoid leakage.

Acoustic Boards

Use: provide structure, mass and a finished surface layer after sealing and decoration.

Vibration Isolators

Use: reduce structure-borne vibration from upstairs impact noise and mechanical equipment.

Use: reduces outdoor traffic and environmental noise when combined with proper frames and seals.

FAQ

How much does soundproofing cost?

Sound Shield uses package pricing. Ceiling systems start from RMB 278/sqm, home ceiling package is RMB 538/sqm, home wall package is RMB 498/sqm and floor systems start from RMB 368/sqm. Final quotations are based on on-site measurement.

Will a soundproof ceiling reduce room height?

Yes. A standard ceiling system usually takes about 8-15 cm. We select the thickness based on room height and noise target.

Can the result be guaranteed?

Performance depends on the noise source, structure, material system and construction quality. We use measured assessment and standardized construction to reach the expected target as closely as possible.

How long does construction take?

A ceiling project usually takes 5-10 days, wall work 5-8 days, and full-room soundproofing 10-15 days depending on scope.

Do you provide warranty?

We provide a 2-year warranty and after-sales coordination for reasonable project issues.
